CCS member Nikolaus Fortelny from the Department of Biosciences and Medical Biology at PLUS and his team, in collaboration with colleagues from the University of Cambridge (UK), have systematically investigated the role of epigenetic regulators in normal and malignant hematopoiesis. The authors identified functional interactions between transcription factors and several chromatin factors and showed that leukemia cells use these chromatin factor functions to block differentiation, forming specific chromatin factor-transcription factor interactions that could be used as novel therapeutic targets.
